Summer Program

What is the connection between education and careers? Between public and private sectors? Between helping build the community, and the community of business leaders? Between today and the future?

The Tech 37 internship program builds upon the successful Tech 37 program held today in several Chicago public high schools. Graduates from the 10 week curriculum have been through a program of lectures by corporate sponsor professionals, lab exercises, and team presentations that focus on:

  • Understanding professional services firms roles in business, design and technology
  • Interviewing clients for business requirements
  • Internet/computer vocabulary building
  • Competitive analysis
  • Online research
  • Creative design concepts, such as color theory
  • Information architecture principles
  • HTML programming
  • Effective presentation techniques.

We hope to provide each past and current Tech 37 participant with a technology-focused internship opportunity this summer. These high school students are eager and prepared to connect with a professional opportunity that will build on the skills and experience they have gained so far and that will allow them to contribute in a small way to your corporation.

We are asking the technology community to help us provide close to 200 internships for Tech 37 participants. In providing these internships, we ask that:

  • Companies use interns to support regular staff. Interns should not be expected to fill regular company job openings.
  • Companies provide interns with a comprehensive orientation to their work site as well as a mentor to help them adjust to the corporate world.

The Tech 37 internship program is a part of the Summer Youth 2001 Corporate Initiative. If you choose to sponsor Tech 37 internships at your company, please fill out the Corporate Initiative form; when answering the question, "What kinds of jobs would your intern(s) do?" please specify that you will be providing Tech 37 internships.

Thank you very much for your support. Please contact Khari Hunt at 744-1789 or khunt@cityofchicago.org with any questions regarding the Tech 37 internship program.
