Operation Virtual Shield

In February 10, 2005 OEMC's launch of a new Homeland Security Grid comprised of hundres of miles of fiber optic and cooper cable.

This grid enables the City to expand its use of surveillance cameras, biological, chemical, and radiological sensors. These cameras and sensors simultaneously feed into the City's Operations Center, where day-to-day coordination of city services and emergency response occurs.

The grid allows city officials working at the OEMC to access the camera feeds to better respond to developments in homeland security, law enforcement, traffic management, crowd control and severe weather.
