Chicago showcases the best of international music at the 12th Annual World Music Festival: Chicago 2009, the multi-venue, one-week festival, which attracts an average of 45,000 visitors each year, showcases both traditional and contemporary music from diverse cultures across the world. Many events are family friendly. Events include live radio broadcasts, films, panels, and a mix of free and ticketed concerts presented in museums, parks, cultural centers, plazas, theaters, clubs and other venues throughout Chicago.

The annual festival was launched in 1999 to resounding critical and popular acclaim and is renowned for its innovation, quality and diversity in bringing international music to Chicago. The festival includes performers from dozens of countries and includes musicians currently based in Chicago and other cities in the U.S. Events are scheduled at the Chicago Cultural Center as well as various other performance spaces around the city.
