Roadside Safety Check Results for April 5, 2008 in the 2nd District
Listed here are the results of the Roadside Safety Check conducted by Chicago Police Department in the 2nd District at Garfield and Perry on April 5, 2008. "The purpose of the program is to apprehend drivers who are operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs," said Superintendent Jody P. Weis. "The program also offers an opportunity to issue citations to drivers who are otherwise a hazard to themselves and others on the public way."

During roadside checks officers slow the traffic flow, stopping cars at regular intervals, speaking with drivers and watching for signs of alcohol impairment and other violations as indicated above.
The Roadside Safety Checks are funded by a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
