Where do I go to fill out a Freedom of information request with the City of Chicago, Dept. of Buildings?
That information may be obtained by filling out a Freedom of Information request in the Public Records Section of the Dept. of Buildings, 121 N. LaSalle St, Room 1109. The quickest way is to download the form and submit it.
Can I download the Freedom of Information Request form via the Dept. of Buildings website?
Yes, See the form, "Freedom of Information Request Form" under "See Also" on the left of the screen. The form is in Adobe Acrobat format.
How much does it cost for a Freedom of Information Request?
If the information is printed from a computer, the cost is 15 cents a page. For documents printed off of microfilm, the price is $2.25 a page.
How long does it take to receive the documents?
Approximately seven working days, depending on the request.
Can someone find out building violations on a property by filling out a Freedom of Information request?
Yes.
