Midway Plaisance Closures

CHICAGO, Oct. 5, 2001 — One or both directions of Midway Plaisance — from Cornell Dr. to Cottage Grove Ave. — will be closed completely to traffic and parking during the four weekends in October for resurfacing, the Chicago Department of Transportation announced today.

Weather permitting, the roadways will close from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays only. Expected closure dates and directions are:

Both 59th and 60th Streets, and all of the north-south cross streets, will remain open to traffic during resurfacing.

The Midway Plaisance resurfacing work is part of the South Lake Shore Drive Reconstruction Project. The City of Chicago, Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Federal Highway Administration are investing $162 million in the work, with much of the funding coming from the Illinois FIRST program.
