South Lake Shore Drive lane reductions between 23rd and 47th Streets this weekend

Lane closures between 23rd and 47th Streets will allow South Lake Shore Drive work crews to safely construct new concrete lanes during on Friday and Saturday. Here's what drivers will find in the work zone:

  • Between the hours of 6:00 a.m. Friday (December 6) and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday (December 7), South Lake Shore Drive will be down to two lanes in each direction between 23rd and 47th Streets.

  • Note that these lane reductions are in effect during the morning and evening rush hours on Friday, and motorists at those times should expect delays.

  • To avoid delays, drivers may want to reroute by using the designated alternate routes of the Dan Ryan Expressway, King Drive or Cottage Grove Avenue.

  • The lane closures allow workers to safely construct two new southbound lanes near Oakwood Blvd.
