Superb design and detailing make this commercial building stand out among its neighbors, reflecting the creativity of its principal designer. A former assistant to famed Chicago architect Louis H. Sullivan, George Grant Elmslie designed several neighborhood buildings for the Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company to promote the newly developed technologies for gas home appliances.
